Mikae Natsuyama
Mikae Natsuyama was born In Japan, where she studied Church Music at the Elizabeth University of Music in Hiroshima. Here, she obtained her Bachelor's degree.
Since 1992 she lives in The Hague to advance her study and career in early music. She received vocal ensemble training for the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque repertoires at the Brabants Conservatory (Fontys) in Tilburg and obtained a chamber music diploma and a Master's degree in Early Music Singing with Marius van Altena, Thea van der Putten and Jill Feldman at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She followed numerous masterclasses and courses for medieval and renaissance music with notable leading musicians for these repertoires, o.a.: Andrea von Ramm, Paul Hilliar, Barbara Thornton, Benjamin Bagby, Pedro Memelsdorff, Marcel Pérès, Anne Azéma, and Joël Cohen.
She also coached by Ron Murdock, especially with combination of Alexander technique and it became very strong base of her singing.
She has extensive stage experience, singing both in her native country Japan and in Europe as a soloist as well as an ensemble and choir singer. She performed during many international festival s including the Early Music in Utrecht, as well as events in Antwerp, Bruges, Berlin, Brezice, Royaumont and Tel-Aviv.
She worked with Belgian ensemble 'Currende', directed by Erik van Nevel, which she made 2 CD's as a soloist. She also takes part of the projects of La Petitte Bande, Laurens Collegium and Bachkoor Holland as the choir soprano or the soprano solo and works with the conductors such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Roy Goodman, Gijs Leenaars, Wiecher Mandemaker, Gabor van Os, Nathalie Stuzmann, Stephane Deneve, Pablo Heras-Casado.
2010 she sang the leading part of ‘’A.M.” , a music theatre production by Arnoud Noordegraaf, which was performed at the famous international festival for contemporary art, the “November Music Festival 2010” and the Holland Festival 2011, Theatrefestival Boulevard in The Netherlands 2011, The Festival of Flanders 2013.
Apart from modern music, Mikae’s main interest is the religious and secular monophonic repertoire of the 11th-13th centuries. She is the driving force behind the programmes of Ensemble L'Alba, which she founded and leads. The troubadour and trouvère repertoire is very close to her heart and this preference is clearly reflected in the programmes of this group.
Since 2008, she has been the artistic director of the Foundation ‘’Cappella Stella Maris’’, for which she coaches the Early Music vocal ensemble ‘’Cappella Stella Maris’’. She also plans and frequently gives Early music workshops for motivated amateur musicians.
2012 she found a professional vocal trio La Cappelletta, which majours Medieval sacred repertoires from betwween 9th-14th century.
